If you’ve been at all following electronic dance music then surely you’ve come across the world of Mad Decent, a Philly-based label run by internationally renowned producer/DJ and tastemaker Wesley Pentz, aka Diplo. Revered for his incredibly diverse leanings across the spectrum of dance music, Diplo has championed everything from Brazilian funk carioca to New Orleans bounce to the trap revival and just recently put out a six track EP full of forward-thinking moombahton collaborations.
One of the artists featured on the “Express Yourself” EP is VCU alum Long Jawns. No stranger to Richmond’s dance music scene, Jawns has been a mainstay at club nights such as Brain Drain, RVAlution, and many of Rumors’ own dance parties, most recently their 5 year anniversary at Strange Matter. His production work, which tends to fall under the moombahton tag, has also blown up over the past year with nods from Diplo, Nadastrom and several other of the genre’s major players.
Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending the video shoot for a joint off Long Jawn’s next release, an EP with frequent partner Billy the Gent entitled “Holler” (stream the title track here). Featuring girls, hot dogs, and some of the best dressed spectators Richmond has to offer, the finished clip is sure to be a wild one.
Keep a look out for the “Holler” EP and video dropping in the next few weeks on Mad Decent.
