Richmond artist Jon Zanin, known to countless friends as Jonny Z, died in 2007 at 26. To celebrate his endearing spirit, friends started the Jonny Z Festival to honor their friend and promote art, music and friendship in the community. In its fourth year, the festival will take over a block in the Fan with a party that will include food, children’s activities, arts and crafts, printmaking, commemorative T-shirts, and music provided by local musicians Josh Small, Alison Self, Photosynthesizers and the No BS Brass Band. The festival happens Saturday, Aug. 13, on the 200 block of North Shields Avenue, in front of Joe’s Inn, from noon-5 p.m. Free. Article borrowed from Style Weekly.
